Making the most of the wind and rain - road trip Day one, east coast Australia

Flying in yesterday with some unexpected health issues we opted to spend the day in the hostel and exploring central Airlie Beach, doing some groceries and watching movies.
With the rain forecast for all of this week there wasn't much else on the list we could have done. I managed to sleep off my illness and we started a new fresh today. Continuing with rain and heavy winds we unfortunately didn't have much we could do in terms of water activities and sight seeing.
After some discussion we decided it's best to hire a car for the day and head out to explore the surrounds towns and coastal beaches. Our first stop was to Cedar Creek Falls. I 100% recommend it if staying in Airlie Beach. It's located about 30-40 minutes outside of the town centre and is the most beautiful waterfall i've seen. We had a swim in there and tested out the drone before heading for some lunch in Bowen. Given that it was a Sunday, heavy rain and not many people around a lot of the shops and cafes were closed so we had a cheeky cheat meal from Dominoes before heading to Horse Shoe Beach/Bay. If the weather conditions where better we definitely would have stayed a lot long in all the places we visited today.
We headed home around 5pm to Airlie beach taking us around 1 and a bit to get back to our hostel. Tomorrow we are meant to head off on our 2 day 2 night sailing trip around the Whitsundays but it is all weather permitting. Having had the last two days canceled and the conditions outside not too promising we aren't going to get our hopes up just yet...
